When it comes to progressive rock in India, there are scores who are fond of Agam – the Band. The Bengaluru-based group has been in the top five bands across India for more than a decade now.
The traditional carnatic music is complemented by the hard metal elements which defines a track by Agam. “Our music is a fusion of traditional Carnatic music with hard metal. Majority of our band members are formally trained in Carnatic music. We are a band who can be tagged under the genre of Progressive Rock,” says Praveen Kumar, lead guitarist.
The band consists of seven members – Harish Sivaramakrishnan (36) lead vocals and violin, Ganesh Ram Nagarajan (32) on drums, Aditya Kasyap (32) on bass guitar, Swaminathan Seetharaman (41) on keyboard, Sivakumar Nagarajan (40) on ethnic percussions, Praveen Kumar (29) on lead guitar and Jagadis Natrajan (27) on rhythm guitar.

The city has been active on the music circuit for the last 12 months with international bands visiting it and Agam seems to be aware of what it needs to present to them to cater to their new tastes.
The band is currently in Bengaluru recording their second album which they are planning to release this October. The band had released their first album titled The Inner Awakens in October 2012 and was immediately a hit.
The album went on to top the charts on the best selling album on Flipkart’s flyte. However, this time they have something different.“We have recorded five songs for our second album now. It is something different that we have done this time unlike our first album,” says Praveen.
