Expect all things Korean at a bazaar that encourages you to shop, eat and dance
Mark the dates in your calendar as there is a Korean bazaar organised by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea. According to Kyungsoo Kim, the Consul General, the bazaar is a good way to bring both the communities together, “Chennai is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in India and has a fairly huge population of Koreans. So we though a flea market will bring the communities closer.” At the bazaar on August 16, expect stalls on clothes and accessories, plus stalls that offer authentic Korean food. “Our ladies are working real hard on bringing together some quirky items for the flea market,” says Kim, adding, “We will have a mix of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Expect our vegetarian staple — rice mixed with veggies and Kimchi — a must try,” he says. In terms of music and entertainment, audience can get to hear Harmony for the first time. “It is an armature Korean band that formed less than a year ago. They have regular practice sessions every Saturday and they will be presenting some Korean songs,” Kim shares.
And what would the flea market be without Korean electronic items? “Korea made phones and cars will be on display too,” adds Kim. And for kids there are stalls for face painting and tattoos. There are also charity based activities. “We have a tie up with an orphanage in Vellore that is taken care of by the Korean community, so we will be open to donations and charity for the children,”
