Footwear label, Smitten, opens its first store in the city
Aneesha Goenka and Sakshi Sahi’s shoe fetish translated into their own label, Smitten about two years ago. Sourcing footwear from all over Asia, the duo started off selling their handpicked pieces at flea markets, and online through their Facebook page. An instant hit everywhere they took their products, they were egged on by the overwhelming response they received and now launch their first store in the city.
“Smitten was started to provide high street couture at affordable prices. In the past, shoes used to protect our feet, today they are style statements,” laughs Goenka.
Located in Indiranagar, their store has a French modern appeal with a very distinct feminine touch. “After studying the market, styles, trends, customer preferences, etc, for two years we decided to set up a brick and mortar store,” Goenka explains.
The hand-picked collections are a reflection of the duo’s personal style featuring solid shades with nudes and metallics thrown in for good measure— think pumps, ballet flats, kitten heels, wedges, stilettos and thongs. While their collection changes every three or four months, their neon range got them a huge influx of new customers.
We especially loved the Prints collection, their latest, marked by fun florals. We spotted a blush roses print on a black number, and one on beige that made quite an impression. “The florals really make a style statement when teamed with ordinary outfits. A great print can enhance a plain dress or add oomph to skinny jeans with a white shirt,” says MBA graduate, Goenka.
The season’s picks also extend to trendy block heels that Goenka says is all the rage currently, apart from flats like d’orsays and moccasins to be paired with midi skirts. “This season is all about comfortable wearable shoes. Flats are very on trend and are great when paired with the very ‘in’ midi skirts and boyfriend jeans,” she says in conclusion.
