Shangri-La’s rooftop bar is the newest weekend address for the party crowd

Adding to the list of city bars that are sky high, the newly launched Hype at the Shangri-La hotel is the ideal setting for a Saturday night drink with friends or even the first stop on a date. Perched on the 19th floor of the hotel, the open air space has a centrally located bar with tables running the length of the split-level deck, offering sweeping views of the city — from the green expanse of the golf course to quiet neighbourhoods in the vicinity.Adding to the list of city bars that are sky high, the newly launched Hype at the Shangri-La hotel is the ideal setting for a Saturday night drink with friends or even the first stop on a date. Perched on the 19th floor of the hotel, the open air space has a centrally located bar with tables running the length of the split-level deck, offering sweeping views of the city — from the green expanse of the golf course to quiet neighbourhoods in the vicinity. The menu is extensive, covering single malts and tequila and everything in between. The perfect antidote to a hot, muggy day, Her Hype is a refreshingly light drink that we opted to start with. Featuring a base of vodka, the concoction is completed with a dash of Chenin Blanc, fresh cucumber, basil, lemon and camomile syrup. With far more robust flavours, His Hype on the other hand, works as a sinful indulgence to lose yourself in after a hectic day. The drink has a base of Bourbon with coffee, orange and chocolate bitters, and maple syrup. If you’re craving something a touch more fruity and sweet, try the Altitude – a tall glass of Gin muddled with rosemary, raspberry puree, sweet and sour mix, and finished off with a top up of sparkling water. The menu also boasts a selection of cigars, which include the Rocky Patel sungrown petite corona, Rocky Patel edge robust and the Nicaragua-manufactured Paradiso papagayo toro gigante 21, apart from a few others. To counter all that alcohol in your bloodstream, we suggest you go for the Hype Vada Pav. A modern update to the street favourite, here it comes with a topping of green chutney and a sprinkling of sev. Served on a paddle-like platter, the chicken shawarma burger is an interesting spin on the Arabian classic. Shawarma chicken is topped with onion, tomato slices, and lettuce and wedged between two halves of a soft bun. The desserts are interesting, with options like Chocolate Creme with Cinnamon Brioche – a pot of chocolate cream with cinnamon-flavoured French bread. Rs 1,500++ for two. At Vasanth Nagar.
