Chennaias party animals buckled down this week as the summer festivities kicked into high gear. Unplug Media and Touche PR presented The Park Invasion, ensuring a weekend-long party. On the itinerary: two days and 17 DJs from across the country, with some of the biggest names in the dance music circuit. Highlights included 23-year-old Anish Sood, who is already making waves with his signature sound, as well as Nucleya, co-founder of Bandish Projekt, the man responsible for taking South Indian dubstep to the rest of the nation. The set up was simple, ensuring space to move around, coupled with great acoustics. So even at its loudest, things never got uncomfortable and everyone could still talk to each other. The artist line up saw to it that there was just the right flow, starting mellow and upping the tempo as the night wore on. Udhav Sharma and Tilak Chitale of Unplug Me promised us that, with the huge demand for EDM in the city, this was the first of more events to come.
This weekend also saw the launch of Project Blossoming at Amethyst, in association with Vogue and Amrapali. With the idea of giving back to the community, the creative jewellery initiative sees the coming together of 10 world-class Indian jewellers in support of Nanhi Kali, an endeavour aiming to provide education to the underprivileged girl child. The evening included a fashion showcase for a specially-created collection. Despite the huge crowd, the feel was intimate, with choreography evoking a sense of the old school. Models held poses at various corners, like family portraits frozen in time, giving the ladies a chance to closely examine the stunning pieces. Thatas not to say that there werenat quite a few gentlemen in the crowd. We also spotted Tarang Arora of Amrapali, and Rupak Sen of Gemfields, who made a quick stop in Chennai for the event.
Meanwhile, not too far away, Neeras Design Studio was also celebrating their first anniversary with an ode to couture. Sadhana Srinivasan shared her success story, joined by an illustrious panel including Chitty Babu, Sanjay Pinto, Dr Manoj Beno, Nalini Chidambaram and Dr Mini Rao. Post the speeches, the importance of aesthetics and our hostas love for all things beautiful was brought out through a fashion show, with LUX 214 presenting their Spring Summer collection.
