Meet Kollywood musicians on Anil Talkies
Combining his love of music with the growing presence of digital platforms, Chennai-based classical pianist Anil Srinivasan has started his own web series. Primarily a talk show featuring well-known names from Kollywood, Srinivasan’s Anil Talkies will be uploaded every Friday with a running time of not more than four minutes.
Talking about the format of the show, Srinivasan says that each episode will have three segments beginning on a quirky note, with artistes like Chinmayi, Andrea and RJ Balaji, taking part in music-inspired games, moving on to serious chats on their lives and art, and ending with their original songs. All the original content produced on the show will be given exclusively to lyricist Madhan Karky for his two-month-old online portal, DooPaaDoo, founded to encourage independent musicians.
The concept for the web series was six months in the making as Srinivasan wanted “something simple”. Speaking about choosing the web as a platform rather than a more conventional medium like TV, Srinivasan believes that as a musician, one has to move with the times. “That’s (online) where the action is happening right now. It is the number one destination for consuming music,” he says. The idea is “to remain connected with the younger audiences” who listen to most of their music online. With season two in the offing, Srinivasan plans to make this series a regular feature. “In Season 2, we want artistes from the previous generation,” he says.
