Kerala band Thaikkudam Bridge, to perform tonight in the city
Known for their wild acts on stage, the ‘multi-lingual, multi-cultural and multi-genre’ Kerala-based band Thaikkudam Bridge says its diversity – a fusion of Kerala folk, western, classical and commercial music – is its unique selling point. They are performing in the city today, the second time since their inception in 2013.
Thaikkudam Bridge was formed by cousins Siddharth Menon (vocals) and Govind Menon (violin). The band rose to fame through their performances in Music Mojo, a musical show telecast in Kappa TV. Emphasising how the show helped the band, Mithun says, “If it was not for this television show, Govind and Siddharth would not have made calls for the original line up.”
The band has seven vocalists – Siddharth Menon, Vipin Lal CK, Nila Madhav Mohapatra, Krishnav Bongan, Peethambaran Menon, Christine Jose Vadasseril and Anish Krishnan. The band also has Govind Menon (violin), Ashok Nelson (rhythm guitars), Vian Fernandes (bass guitars), Anish TN (drums) and Ruthin Thej (keyboards). They are accompanied by three sound engineers Rajan KS, Amith Bal and Hemanth K. Mithun says that the band is excited to play in India’s oldest cultural hub and is expecting an enthusiastic crowd for their second gig in the City of Nizams.
The band is currently on a break from composing new tracks due to the promotions of their latest album Navarasam. “By promotion, we mean playing music live and shooting videos and other stuff that our wacky heads in the team come up with,” adds Mithun. The band recently concluded a video shoot with renowned Bollywood director Bejoy Nambiar who shot Wazir and Shaitan.
The Hyderabad fans can expect numbers such as Fish Rock, Navarasam and Urumbu. “We will release the video of the Navarasam track in January. This big budget production is certainly one of our milestones,” adds Mithun.
The band will also be releasing an untitled Extended Play consisting three or four original tracks
Thaikkudam Bridge will perform at Hard Rock Cafe today at 8 pm. Tickets available at Rs 2,000 per head. Details: in.bookmyshow.com
