Narendra Kumar on what to expect at the Amazon India Fashion Week
Resplendent with national fervour is next week’s Amazon India Fashion Week. This year, the focus is on Indian textiles, with over 60 designers in the fray. And with Italy as the partner country for the event, expect Italian designers, too, like Alberto Zambelli, Bav Tailor, and others. The show will kick off in Delhi on October 12 with designer Samant Chauhan and a few others showcasing chanderi in different styles. The line-up then continues with names like Rina Dhaka, Pankaj & Nidhi and Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna.
“This year’s edition is pegged on the India Modern concept that was introduced last year,” says Narendra Kumar, creative director, adding that the initiative aims to promote Indian elements in globally-inspired products. “With concepts like Make In India and Startup India gaining traction, it makes sense to stick to this theme. We want to capture the spirit of the country and the sensibility of being Indian through the collections,” he explains. Those making their way to the NSIC Grounds (the venue) can expect lots of floral and abstract prints, says Kumar, adding that the spring-summer code will come through in the flowy silhouettes and columnar dresses, too. The grand finale will see the versatile JJ Valaya showcasing his opulent creations, along with his protégé, Alpana Neeraj, as part of a unique guru-shishya showcase.
