Will Aamir be drunk on success?
It’s the Aamir Khan time of year. This time the transistor-sporting underdressed actor plays PK. Rumours have been rife about the originality of the story by director Rajkumar Hirani and co-writer Abhijat Joshi. To start with, the first poster of PK was accused of being a variation of Portuguese musician Quim Barreiros’ album cover (except that an accordion is the only thing covering the musician’s bare body). There is also a question on the similarity between PK and Kevin Spacey starring sci-fi mystery K-Pax (2001), where a man confined to a mental facility claims to be from another planet. However, the makers have denied any similarity to their film, which also stars Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjay Dutt. In truth, it hardly matters. By all accounts, and given Aamir Khan’s popularity and hold on the December slot (Ghajini, 3 Idiots, Dhoom3), and that there is no major Bollywood release slotted for the next
two weeks, PK might be drunk on success soon enough.
Kareena’s winter wonderland
Kareena Kapoor Khan is wrapping up a schedule of Bajrangi Bhaijaan with Salman Khan before she can take a much-needed winter break in her favourite Swiss destination. Just back from a quick trip to the forest reserve of Ranthambhore where her mother-in-law, Sharmila Tagore celebrated her 70th birthday, Kareena is looking forward to some quality downtime with her husband Saif Ali Khan in Gstaad, Switzerland. While she was delighted with the multiple tiger sightings in Ranthambhore, where she also managed to conduct a private yoga class for her family, she is now excitedly looking forward to enjoying fondue in the Alps. But the actress does not just indulge. She balances the cheese overload with exercise. “I don’t get excited about the chocolate since I do not have a sweet tooth,” she says. “But Saif and I work out every day. We do 6-7 km treks or walks when the snowfall is not too heavy.” And on days when it is? “We go to the gym and I have booked a few pilates sessions too,” says the 34-year-old.
‘Tis the season for biopics
On the subject of Kareena, reports indicated that she has been approached to star opposite Emraan Hashmi in a biopic on the life of cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin. Kareena admitted that she is yet to hear the script and meet producer Ekta Kapoor and given that biopics are a hot ticket these days – after The Dirty Picture, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and Mary Kom etc, she is open to the idea. While Hashmi would have to undergo training to step into the former India captain’s shoes, Kareena might play the role of his second wife Sangeeta Bijlani. The film is expected to begin shooting in February, which means Kareena might have to think while on holiday and make a quick decision on her return. As for Hashmi, although he has not had a great year at the box office with duds like Raja Natwarlal and Ungli, he will be hoping to turn his fortunes with Mohit Suri’s Hamari Adhuri Kahaani, Vikram Bhatt’s Mr. X and the other true-life based story, Tigers,
by Danis Tanovic.
Deck the halls, in case of eviction
This last snippet is not strictly Bollywood, but it was amusing enough to merit sharing! Fans of Bigg Boss might be familiar with TV actor Gautam Gulati who is famous for wandering around the reality show house shirtless and for his awkward handling of female attention. As popular as he is with audiences, he is unpopular with housemates who have consistently nominated Gulati for eviction. So it seems that for several weeks now, every Friday his maid goes to his Mumbai apartment and cleans it, just in case he does get evicted and comes home on the weekend!
