Salman Khan doesn’t believe in tempering his opinions. When asked about his take on pay disparity between male and female actors in Bollywood, he rubbished it. “The question is who is pulling people into a theatre? If a female star is drawing them in and the producer is making money… then obviously they (female actors) will get that much money. But if it’s a male star, then he will get it.” The actor argued that he also knows a lot of male stars who get paid a lot less. There are male stars in the Rs.1 to Rs.3 crore bracket, and female stars charging between Rs.5 and Rs.7 crores. “Today, there are managers who monitor everything and the business is very clear. So whoever brings returns on investment gets that much money. Simple!” Earlier, Kangana Ranaut had protested against the inequality in payment between male and female actors. “I just want to be treated as an equal,” she had said. Obviously Mr Khan believes all is fair in movie land.
Getting dizzy with it
Reportedly, Nargis Fakhri, Jacqueline Fernandez and Lisa Haydon are having the time of their lives on the sets of Housefull 3. The actresses, who are currently shooting the sequel in London, are busy taking selfies, shopping and getting to know the crew. Their pictures are already a hit on social media. Meanwhile, co-star Akshay Kumar is grabbing headlines, too. He recently shared his #dizzygoals challenge video—where he spun around a ball 13 times before trying to score a penalty goal—on his social media account. Needless to say, fans went crazy and he even inspired Fernandez to give it a shot. Directed by Sajid-Farhad, the film also stars Riteish Deshmukh and Abhishek Bachchan.
Three for dad
TV actor Ram Kapoor will play Katrina Kaif’s quirky dad in Nitya Mehra’s debut film, Baar Baar Dekho. Ram’s character is suave and stylish, and since the film has three phases, he, too, sports three different looks. According to reports, the actor has also lost weight for the role. Meanwhile, Kaif’s next is the much-awaited Anurag Basu film, Jagga Jasoos, with Ranbir Kapoor. It was recently in the news for a fallout between Basu and Kaif on the sets.
The first look of Imtiaz Ali-directed Tamasha, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, is already garnering much interest. There is an easy camaraderie between the actors, and the poster features unique caricatures in the backdrop. The first look, along with the out-of-the-box poster, has the tag line, “Why always the same story?” Though the storyline is a closely guarded secret, it has been widely speculated that Padukone will be seen playing the role of a free-spirited girl and a fan of comic books, whereas Kapoor will be a typical boy-next-door. Scheduled to release on November 27.
