Bollywood fans in Dubai have a great reason to cheer about. Big B has confirmed his presence in the upcoming Times Of India Film
Awards (TOIFA) 2016 to be held in Dubai next month. The awards night will pack a punch by A-listers — Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Varun Dhawan, and Yo Yo Honey Singh. This year’s nominees are as exciting as the line-up of performers. Zoya Akhtar is the only female director to get nominated for her film Dil Dhadakne Do in the ‘Best Director’ category. She will be vying for the title against Anand L Rai’s Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani, Shoojit Sircar’s Piku and Kabir Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
Blast from the past
Pooja Bhatt has an acting offer — after a gap of 15 years — that she could not say no to. It’s by her filmmaker-father Mahesh Bhatt. The story, still in scripting phase, is about an alcoholic actress who chooses her career over her illegitimate child, and grapples with this decision later. The plot bears resemblance with her 1989 debut film Daddy, (directed by Bhatt) which was about an alcoholic father. Pooja likes to refer her new project as a “reverse of Daddy”. Over the week, the actress has Instagrammed a few snaps from her past. She is also updating her fans about the shoot of Cabaret, which she is producing. It’s got a cameo by her former co-star Rahul Roy.
She has got two movies in the pipeline already. One opposite Salman Khan in Sultan and the other is Ae Dil Hai Mushkil with Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. But that’s not all. This week Anushka Sharma announced another movie she will be part of called Phillaur. Sharma won’t just star as lead in the movie but will also co-produce it with Fox Star Studios. She will be sharing screen space with singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh and Suraj Sharma, of Life of Pi fame and will be directed by debutant Anshai Lal. How does this 27-year-old juggle all of this, on top of her break up with cricketer Virat Kohli and still stay upbeat and chirpy? Dance, according to Sharma is the best form of workout but to keep up with endless shooting hours — it is a mix of yoga, early morning meditation and some mean strength training, besides mom’s healthy home-cooked food that sees her through. You go girl!
Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto was seen having a gala holiday in snowy climes where she spent some quality time with her BFF.
