Attakkalari’s Diploma in Movement Arts and Mixed Media is one of the most sought after. Originally meant to be just a year long, it is now a two-year course. After 22 years, the Natya Institute has decided to revamp its Diploma in Choreography. Originally conceptualised by renowned dancer Maya Rao, it is modified to suit the needs of the modern dance world by her daughter, acclaimed kathak and contemporary artiste, Madhu Nataraj. Starting from November, the 18-month course will cover kathak, Indian martial arts, Indian contemporary dance, karanas, dance therapy, choreography and mime, along with theory subjects such as the world history of movement and Indian aesthetics, apart from elements of production such as stage design and lighting.
