A new music festival in Pondi-cherry has Edward Maya flying down, plus other headliners
After Sunburn Reload this August and Go Madras music festival earlier this month, Pondicherry will welcome another EDM carnival, Electro Storm. The country’s newest electronica event, it made its debut in Chandigarh last month, and comes to Pondicherry on October 7-8, to be hosted at the Ashok Beach Resort, by the Kalapet Beach. And what a line-up it has. Right on top of the list of headliners is none other than record-breaking Romanian DJ Edward Maya, followed by other names like Ankytrixx, Zbindy, Sameer Shroff and more. The highly-anticipated event (its Facebook page already has over 6,400 likes) is organised by city-based fashion week organiser, Storm Fashion Company, and they are expecting a footfall of over one thousand. Last heard, it’s going to continue right into the night.
Thirty-year-old Maya comes fresh from a sterling performance in the Chandigarh edition. The self-confessed lover of Bollywood music and Lord Krishna, he attained universal stardom with his 2009 monster hit, Stereo Love, which won the top dance song award at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. Accompanying him will be other international artistes like Miki Love, the Romanian house EDM DJ, who is also known to produce mash-ups of retro hits from the 80s and 90s. Then there’s DJ Ashanti, the multi-talented producer from Russia, who is also a prize-winning journalist and photographer. At Electro Storm, he will be playing his brand of trance, house and techno.
Best of the rest
“The first day of the festival will start with opening acts by Zbindy and Sameer Shroff,” says Gaurav Sharma, one of the partners at Storm Fashion Company. Shroff, as you may know, is a city-based DJ who was recently seen at the Go Madras festival. He will treat revellers to his deep and progressive tech music. The same genre of music will also be played by another city-based DJ, Joba Khan. Other highlights on the first day include Ma Faiza, who is often referred to as the country’s Mother of Electronica, along with Ankytrixx and BLOT! The action continues on the second day, with the line-up promising names like Savio, Ram Nair, Chico and Vijay Chawla. It will end with a set by veteran Bengaluru-based producer, DJ Ivan. Meanwhile, if you find time to eat, head to the Pondy Restaurant for Indian and Chinese fare, and to Bay Watch Coffee Shop for some hot beverages.
October 8-9. At Ashok Beach Resort. Tickets from `1,250 on BookMyShow. Details: facebook.com/electrostormers
