Star Trek: Into Darkness (Sci-Fi), HBO, 10.58 pm
Cast: Chris Pine, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zachary Quinto
Directed by JJ Abrams, the movie begins with the crew of the Enterprise being called back home after an act of terrorism within Starfleet, which destroys most of the organisation. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) sets out with his first man, Spock (Zachary Quinto), to hunt down Kahn (Benedict Cumberbatch). Propelling them into an epic game of life and death, the crew fights on as relationships are put to the test and sacrifices are made. Cumberbatch’s character was not revealed to the actor until a week after he was cast. A studio representative flew to London from LA with the script handcuffed to his wrist.

Meanwhile, he discovers that the Japanese interpreter, Takashi Nagase, who had tortured him, is still alive. So they set out together to confront his past. Divergent (Sci-Fi), Sony Pix, 9 pm
Cast: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet
Set in a futuristic dystopian Chicago, society has been divided into five factions based on virtues. People are tested and assigned a faction according to their aptitude. After testing, Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley) is put in the Abnegation faction, but she chooses Dauntless—a faction for the brave —where she fights for survival and also falls for her instructor Four (Theo James). When an underlying conflict threatens the seemingly-peaceful society, she realises she has the power to either save or destroy them. To apply Four’s temporary tattoos, make-up head Brad Wilder cut transfer paper into 40 pieces, creating a ‘giant jigsaw puzzle’. It then took three people over three hours to assemble the pattern on James’ back.
