From the classic tuxedo to statement watches, fashion designer Rocky S shows you how to rock the red carpet like a movie star.
After watching parades of gorgeous dresses and gowns — thanks to the Cannes Film Festival and the Met Gala — we turned to Rocky S for an injection of style for men on the red carpet. The designer, who recently launched his new label RS Jeans — a collection of chic denims for the summer — tells us one can’t go wrong with a tuxedo for a black tie affair. Here are some pointers to nail the formal look.
“For a red carpet look, a brocade tuxedo with satin lapels would be perfect,” says Rocky. So we pick Tom Ford’s silk and cotton blend jacquard tuxedo jacket with satin lapels, cuffs and trims made in Switzerland. The petrol and black colour will be a sure conversation starter. Team it with a white shirt and you are set for the night. Rs 3,20,935 approx.
Old is gold
“For perfume, Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford is just the right thing,” shares Rocky. The Grey Vetiver eau de parfum is a classic that was launched in 2009. Its refreshing woodsy scent will leave you fresh all day and night. While great for all seasons, its citrus notes make it perfect for the summers. Rs 7,700 for 50 ml. Details: mrporter.com
The cosmic collection
Though we’re partial to cufflinks, it doesn’t mean we’ll say no to a great watch. Like the Rotonde de Cartier Earth and Moon. “For accessorising, I like to keep it classic. A watch will complete the red carpet look,” says Rocky. Named so because of its two sub-dials, representing the Earth and the Moon, this limited edition pink-gold timepiece with golden brown leather straps will add the right touch of glamour to your attire. Rs 1,57,06,096. Available at Kapoor Watch Co in DLF Emporio. Details: 011 46767777
The perfect bling
While Rocky suggests a watch to complete the look, we suggest you glam it up just a notch with these elegant cufflinks by Amrapali’s Tribe. Choose the round blue glass design or the silver and gold capsule glass ones to add the right amount of glitter to your tux. From Rs 2,100 onwards, at the Amrapali store in Nungambakkam. Style your beard
The stubble has been trending ever since Movember (no shave November). For those who don’t want to go clean shaven for a formal event, we recommend you groom your beard with this set by Beardo. It offers four products, including beard oils, beard wash, beard wax and a wooden comb. Rs 2,770. Details: beardo.in
Don the Armani
What can be better than a classic Armani? Made in Italy, this blue dinner jacket from the brand’s latest spring/summer collection has a checkered texture with grosgrain finish—quite different from the regular black jackets—which will spice up the formal look. Available at Giorgio Armani in DLF Emporio, New Delhi. Rs 1,51,000. Details: 011 41027122
The designer likes how our Chote Nawab, Saif Ali Khan, dresses. “He is one star who always styles elegantly and carries off the classy look perfectly,” he says.
Continuing to keep it clean and classic, Rocky suggests hair wax by Toni&Guy’s label.m to set your locks. The Matt Paste gives an edgy matt texture, while the product’s exclusive enviroshield complex protects your hair against UV rays. Rs 1,200 for 50 ml.At the Toni&Guy store in Express Avenue, Royapettah. Details: 28464550
Men in white
