Surprise in the ring
Out of the new faces launched in last week’s disappointing Fugly was Olympic medal-winning boxer Vijender Singh who, much to my surprise, was better than some of his co-stars. The sportsman’s character was written to be quite close to his real life persona, which helped Singh make the transition. While his acting was passable, his dancing skills lacked the grace you might associate with a nimble boxer. In a recent interview Singh said he sometimes found it hard to take instructions during the shoot. And though a boxing movie might be too obvious, it might be exactly the right one to showcase Singh’s agility and abilities.
