Neeti Mohan on her debut as a judge, and inspiring kids
Singer Neeti Mohan of Ishq Wala Love fame is back to the world of reality TV. This time, as a judge and mentor on The Voice India Kids. Before her playback career took off in 2012, she was part of the winning band of Coke [V] Popstars season 1, called Aasma (the Chandu Ke Chacha hitmakers). In 2009, she was also seen in composer Shankar Mahadevan’s team on the show, Music Ka Maha Muqabla.
In her current assignment, the 30-something artiste, as well as her co-judges—singer Shaan and Shekhar Ravjiani, one half of the Vishal-Shekhar composer duo — will train singers in the age group of six-14 to bag the ultimate title.
“Both Shaan and Ravjiani are senior to me in the industry, but never did they once make me feel intimidated. Yes, Shaan did rag me, but it’s all in good humour,” begins Mohan, adding that the participants are from all over the country, — from Delhi and Madhya Pradesh, to Assam and Karnataka, and one from Shimla, too. “There’s a sort of a national integration happening on the show,” laughs the singer, who performed at the International Indian Film Academy Awards in Madrid this Sunday.
Since Mumbai-based Mohan has seen “the other side of the stage”, she wants the kids to have an inspiring experience to take back home. “I understand if a kid feels nervous in front of the cameras, while giving interviews, or feels the pressure of the competition. But reality shows are often life-changing. Contestants get so much love when they get back to their cities,” says the artiste, whose next projects include Katrina Kaif-starrer Baar Baar Dekho, and a single, both with singer Armaan Malik.
And when do we get to see Mohan, and her famous siblings, Shakti and Mukti (winner of Dance India Dance 1 and Zara Nachke Dikha dance reality shows) together? “Expectations are high, but we are also waiting for something inspiring to come our way,” concludes Mohan, who unwinds over TV shows (Friends, Modern Family, Breaking Bad), long drives, and evening walks with her pet
Premieres July 23.
