Theatre Konnection makes light of the mundane this weekend
THE Lalit Ashok’s Theatre Konnection works around the Supper Theatre concept combining gourmet tuck-in with live theatre. Dramanon returns with a series of four short plays themed around simple mistakes made in everyday life, titled Mr & Ms Takes.

Swetanshu Bora of Dramanon tells us that the four comedies are simple yet hilarious. “The adaptations range from one set in 18th century Russia to present day scenarios.”
So, while Anton Chekhov’s play about a man who takes his son to a prostitute for the first time in order to initiate him into ‘manhood’ (The Arrangement), might not be an “everyday mistake today”, it reflects a common occurrence in a different era. A relatable spoof on our dependence on technology comes through with Immobiles — a comedy of errors that ensues when a couple is unable to pick up a foreign visitor from the airport. “Anyone who has had a boss will relate to the third one,” says Bora about The Sneeze, that covers a series of embarrassments that occur when a man accidentally sneezes on his employer’s head at a social gathering. Meet Cute has two people at an airport lounge waiting for fate to bring them together or split them up.
Bora, who was initially sceptical about people dining through a theatrical performance, says he is quite satisfied with the outcome so far. “I had reservations from a puritan perspective but everyone, from the hotel to the audience, have been very sensitive and conscious.”
Chef Subodh Goyal cooks up a continental menu for VIP pass-holders (`3,000) with everything from grilled fig and brie with rocula salad, to thyme-scented pureed broccoli soup, duck confit and raspberry almond torte with lavender macaroon.
