Gourmetitup is a new web portal aiming to curate your regular dine-out experience
Since getting a table at restaurants is simple enough, we had to wonder what the sudden slew of online reservation services in the city were all about. “We offer customers a lot more besides banal table bookings,” promise Kunal and Deepa Jain, the duo behind Gourmetitup, Bangalore’s newest web portal in this space.
“We are aware that here it does not take a month to bag a table, nor are they sold to celebrities like season game tickets as in metros like New York, London or Tokyo, so we offer users a whole curated dining experience as well,” says Kunal. With `1.81 crore funding in their kitty, the duo plans to woo the jaded diner by pooling their expertise and tapping into the current culinary trends. Kunal, formerly with Indianhanger.com, a designer wear e-commerce platform and Deepa, founder of online gourmet supplier RecipeMobile, offer a gamut of specialised services and mobile-based apps to users and restaurants.
Cheek to jowl
Gourmetitup will be jostling for market space with portals like Poshvine, which introduces users to unique dining and culinary experiences not available elsewhere. And Delhi-based TableGrabber Pvt Ltd, which offers online restaurant reservation and status updates in real time through its website TableGrabber.co and claims to have partnered with 400 hotels across Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
“We are using the research gathered over the last two years across cities, combining them with inputs from restaurateurs in Bangalore to create experiences that work well for everybody,” says Kunal. Tasting menus rank high on their priority list. “We offer guests a sampling of dishes with small portions and prices adjusted accordingly so your experience will be more varied and complete,” adds Deepa. A four-course menu at Glasshouse, she cites as an example, ranges from slow-roasted pumpkin with herbs to caramalised goats cheese and tenderloin medallions (`849), while a six-course dim sum experience at Yauatcha costs `1,200.
The process is easy enough. Diners register on the site and access the listed dining experiences with the concierge on hand to assist via call or live chat and possibly make suggestions. Subsequent bookings give you the chance to win loyalty points and freebies.
