Meet Aathira Mannali, the talent behind Inkpikle, a two-month-old contemporary clothing line set on redefining the fabric of khadi.

Having grown up amidst her fatherai??i??s pronounced love for this natural fibre, a corporate job at Bengaluru soon proved dispiriting for this 24-year-old. Her research with the fabricai??i??drawing from personal experiences while travelling along the khadi-oriented artisan villages in the countryai??i??catalysed Mannaliai??i??s desire to do something more for the industry, resulting in Inkpikle.

Having brought out more than three concept-oriented collections, ranging from a combination of Madras checks and pastel hues to print-based ones highlighting tribal Aztec motifs done in batik, Mannaliai??i??s fuss-free designs celebrate anti-fit silhouettes.

ai???Although, a lot of designers work with khadi for seasons and causes, we work exclusively on this throughout the year with an unusual and quirky flavour,ai??? says the designer, who crafts her clothes in collaboration with artisans from Kolkata and Kerala.

While the motifs on her ai???out of the boxai??i?? ensembles vary from traditional kolam prints to ravens, the use of pastel and neutral hues truly facilitates the classy rendition of this textured fabric.
