With the new Utoo cabs plying the roads, Uber and Ola have competition

DURING peak hours last Tuesday, when I find both Uber and Ola flashing surge prices on my phone screen, I download the new app, Utoo, launched on June 10. The sedan ride incurred no surge pricing. KVP Baskar, Aircel CEO, said, “Unlike other cab services, our product will never have surge-pricing and that’s a major difference between Utoo and other apps.” The cab driver is courteous (speaking in perfect English), punctual and dressed in a spotless white uniform. With 180 cars in the city, Utoo’s option is restricted to sedans and SUVs currently. Started by Chinnakannan Sivasankaran, the serial entrepreneur and the founder of Aircel, smaller cars are also in the pipeline. Base fare for a sedan is Rs 40. Details: play.google.com
