The sixth edition of Go:Madras brings down 32 DJs and a host of other activities next weekend
EDM pounding on our beach-front from morning to night just means that Go:Madras, the city’s home-grown Electronic Dance Music festival, is back with their party weekend. Now in its sixth edition, they are sticking to their noon-to-10 pm format and this year’s festival will see 32 DJs from domestic and international circuits come together for one continuous party. “Except for the DJs, we’re trying to keep the scale and feel of the festival just the same,” explains DJ Shiva Moon, one of the promoters. Headlining this year’s trance-a-thon will be the record label runners, DJs James Harcourt and Slam.
What is different, however, is the production and theme of the dance areas. “It’s all about the colour, visuals and elements that go into creating the ambience,” Shiva says, explaining that the lawn area at Radisson Blu Temple Bay will house bars, lounges and a VIP area, where the first leg of the festivities will unfurl. “For the after-party, we’ll be doing up the inner space like a Berlin night-club, with an industrial feel to it,” he adds.
As the countdown begins, the DJs are finalising their set lists. “The city has a very educated crowd when it comes to EDM, which is why we look forward to playing here,” says DJ Kohra, who will be experimenting with deep house and progressive tunes. All the DJs will play one-hour sets, while the head-liners get two-hour sets.
This year, the organisers believe the daily crowd will surge to about 2,000 people. “Pre-bookings aside, Go:Madras has become a destination festival. There are people who come from all over and stay in Mahabalipuram for the weekend,” says Shiva. His partner-in-rhyme, DJ Tuhin Mehta (aka Bruteforce), adds, “The reputation of the festival has travelled pretty far internationally. That is why DJs like Harcourt were willing to come without a tour schedule. Even for Indian DJs like Ash Roy and Nikhil Chinapa, it’s the place to be!”
Also look out for the flea market, with stalls selling merchandise—like festival tees and EDM hits—from the performing artistes, and an art installation created by the in-house team.
