Seven-year-old Fred Tate (Adam Hann-Byrd) is a child prodigy born to Dede Tate (Jodie Foster), a single mother of average intelligence. When he starts showing signs of being a genius, Dede decides she will try and make his childhood as normal as possible. But his superior intelligence means that he has no friends at school. When none of his classmates turn up for his birthday party, Dede makes the call to enroll him in an institute for gifted children. The rest of the film traces Fred’s struggles with being a genius and adjusting to the rest of the world. The film is Foster’s directorial debut.

Set in a fictional prehistoric era, Croodaceous, the film revolves around one of the last Crood families—Grug (Nicholas Cage), an over-protective father, his wife Ugga (Katherine Keener), rebellious daughter, Eep (Emma Stone), two sons, Thunk and Sandy, and Ugga’s mother. When an earthquake forces them to abandon their dark cave, Grug is forced to take help from an inventor, Guy (Ryan Reynolds). The film grossed over $583 million, saving Dreamworks from bankruptcy.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) return home to District 12 victorious, after jointly winning the 74th Hunger Games. But Katniss’ decision to stand alongside Peeta has been viewed by some as an act of rebellion against the Capitol, rather than an act of love, and has even inspired rebellions. President Snow advises the pair to use the upcoming victory tour to prove both their loyalty and love, but the threat only escalates when Snow announces a special Hunger Games, the Third Quarter Quell. Katniss is forced to make new allies, as she fights for the survival of those she loves. This was the first film with a sole female protagonist to be the highest grossing film of the year (for 2013) since 1973.

A dramatic portrayal of the power of Stockholm syndrome, the movie shows how a kidnapped girl forms a close bond with her captor. Veera (Alia Bhatt) is making the final preparations for her wedding, when she is abducted by a gang. On finding that her father is an industrialist with links to the government, the gang panics, moving from city to city to keep ahead of the cops. But when Veera opens up to gang member Mahabir (Randeep Hooda) about her troubled childhood, she starts to realise that she might have more freedom in captivity than she ever had at home. The movie was adapted from a TV show of the same name, also directed by Imtiaz Ali.

Ahana (Bipasha Basu) is at the launch party of her new hotel, where she meets novelist Kunal (Imran Abbas Naqvi). They are immediately drawn to each other. But things go awry when the cook is mysteriously killed that night. Believing it to be a panther attack, Ahana soon realises the creature is beyond their realm. With the help of Professor Sadanand (Mukul Dev), they find out that it is a demonic mutant called Brahmaraksha and desperately look for a hunter who can bring it down. Can they stop the killing spree in time? The film is the first creature feature, making it a new genre in Bollywood. It is also Naqvi’s debut film.

Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) is having nightmares after the mission with The Avengers and isn’t thinking straight. He gets off on the wrong foot with The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) and challenges the terrorist to attack his home. Of course, the Mandarin does and now Stark cannot forgive himself for putting his love, Pepper Potts’ (Gwyneth Paltrow) life in danger. He disappears leaving The Mandarin to believe he is dead but only to return with vengeance. The film reaches its peak when the US president’s life is threatened. RDJ is said to have got Paltrow her time as an action lady as he was bored of the damsel in distress concept.
