    Major Ram (Khan) is sent undercover to St Paul’s College in Darjeeling, for a dual mission—to enable a peace initiative with Pakistan (Project Milaap) and to protect the daughter of his commander-in-chief. Once there, he finds his younger brother, Lucky, (Zayed Khan) who studies in the same college. Lucky and his mother had walked out on Ram and his father because of his father’s infidelity. Will his personal issues jeopardise his mission? It was the second highest grossing Hindi movie of 2004, after Veer-Zaara.

    Cast: Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor
    A small-town Brahmin boy, Kundan (Dhanush), falls in love with Zoya Haider (Kapoor), a Muslim girl. Though she rejects his declaration of love initially, she later falls for him. However, when Zoya moves away and enrols at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, she falls in love with a student leader, Akram Zaidi (Abhay Deol). On returning home, she forgets all about Kundan’s love and requests him to convince her family to let her marry Akram. But things begin to unravel when Kundan crashes her wedding party after discovering that Akram has a secret. Initially, Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha were signed on as the lead pair.

    Man of Steel (Action), Movies Now HD, 9 pm
    Cast: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams
    After the destruction of Krypton, their home planet, scientist Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and his wife send their infant son, Kal-El (Cavill) to Earth. There he is adopted by Jonathan (Kevin Costner) and Martha (Diane Lane) Kent who name him Clark Kent. Soon Clark learns of his super powers and dons the secret identity of Superman to protect Earth from attacks by General Zod (Michael Shannon), a citizen of Krypton. He is aided in this by news reporter Lois Lane (Adams). MTV Movie Awards awarded Cavill the Best Hero award for his performance.

    Congo (Action), Zee Studio HD, 4.40 pm
    Cast: Dylan Walsh, Laura Linney
    On an expedition to Congo, researcher Charles Travis (Bruce Campbell) and his friend discover a lost city. But they are mysteriously killed. Back home, Karen Ross (Linney), Charles’ fiancée, sees several dead bodies on a video feed, before a mysterious creature destroys the camera. Meanwhile, Dr Peter Elliot (Walsh) and his assistant are testing communication skills with Amy, a gorilla, and decide to take her back to Congo. Karen joins them. There, they meet the Ghost Tribe and end up with more unanswered questions. The video game, Congo The Movie: The Lost City of Zinj, came out a year after the movie.

    Cast: Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, James Gandolfini
    Bob Saginowski (Hardy) works at Cousin Marv’s, a neighbourhood bar in Brooklyn, as the bartender. Initially owned by his cousin Marv (Gandolfini), the bar is now operated by Chechen mobsters as a temporary drop place for their nefarious deals. Meanwhile, Saginowski rescues a battered pit bull puppy and ends up bonding with his neighbour, Nadia (Rapace) who helps him take care of the dog. The plot takes a turn when the bar is robbed by two gunmen. Saginowski and Marv are under pressure from the mobsters to retrieve the stolen money. Saginowski’s problems escalate when another robbery is planned. The movie is based on a novel of the same title by Dennis Lehane.

    Gulaab Gang (Drama), Zee Cinema HD, 8 pm
    Cast: Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla
    Heading the Gulaab Gang, a revolutionary women’s activists group who wear pink saris and are armed with weapons, Rajjo (Dixit) aims to eradicate social injustice in her village of Madhopur. Going up against corrupt cops, husbands and politicians, the group catches the eye of a cunning politician, Sumitra Bagrecha (Chawla), who asks for their support in return for sanctioning a girls school in the village. But Bagrecha’s intentions are far from pure. After decades in the industry, this is the first film that features both Chawla and Dixit together.

    Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Science Fiction), Star Movies, 9 pm
    Cast: Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Toby Kebbell
    Ten years after the Simian flu took many human lives, genetically enhanced chimpanzee Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his group settle down in the woods outside San Francisco. When a group of human survivors venture into their territory, Caesar is forced to protect his kin. But on finding that the humans are only looking for an electric power source, he decides to help them. However, things go awry when one of his rebellious apes, Koba (Kebbell), tries to kill the humans. The movie won Critics’ Choice Awards for best visual effects.

    The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Drama), HBO Defined HD, 5.25 pm
    Cast: Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller
    An introvert high school freshman, 15-year-old Charlie (Lerman) withdraws from his peers after his best friend commits suicide. He is also plagued by blackouts. It is then that he befriends Sam (Watson) and her stepbrother Patrick (Miller), his seniors at school. The duo helps him by taking him to parties. Meanwhile, he also becomes the literature teacher’s favourite student—who guides him to fulfill his dream of becoming a writer. But Charlie’s mysterious blackouts do not stop, and bits of flash back only confuse him further. The movie was based on a novel of the same name written by Stephen Chbosky.

    Cast: Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Shatrughan Sinha
    Crime has taken its toll on Mumbai with criminals Walia (Jackie Shroff), Manik Rao (Manoj Joshi) and Yusuf Pathan (Irrfan Khan) leading the criminal roster. When things begin to take a positive turn with the arrival of DCP Hari Om Patnaik (Kumar), the criminals kill constable Khaled Ansari (Paresh Rawal). Determined to avenge the constable’s death and put an end to the crime in the city, Patnaik puts together a team consisting of Inspector Vikram Singh (Sinha) and Appa Kadam (Shetty), an encounter specialist. Will the trio succeed? The role of Singh was initially offered to Amitabh Bachchan.

    Last Knights (Drama), Zee Studio, 9 pm
    Cast: Clive Owen, Morgan Freeman
    Bartok (Freeman) is a powerful lord who names Raiden (Owen), the commander of his soldiers, his heir. When Bartok is sentenced for treason against the crown, and executed for not paying a bribe, Raiden’s command is disbanded. Geza Mott (Aksel Hennie), the minister responsible for Bartok’s death, fears his wrath but is protected by his father-in-law’s guards. Raiden and his men continue to plot in secret to kill him. Will they succeed in bringing down Mott? The film received negative criticism despite Owen and Freeman’s acting chops.

Meanwhile, detective Catherine Chandler gets protective of her friend, Vincent, and wants to track down the culprit herself. But Vincent wants her to stay away as he fears his romantic involvement could mar the investigation.

    Today, the crew of Food Highway sets out on a gastro trail in the city of Bengaluru. Watch them dig into flavourful biryani at the popular Biryani Point, among many other local favourites. The road trip will wind up at the Vani Vilas Sagara Dam at Chitradurga district.

    Fabulous Cakes, TLC, Friday, 7 pm
    In this episode, San Francisco-based bakery, Enticing Creations, treats a three-year-old birthday girl to a tea party-themed cake. Another cake, by Fleur de Lisa from Napa County, is inspired by the fashion of 18th century France and Jasmine Rae Bakery (from SF) whips up a Shakespearean Globe Theatre cake to show their love for the stage.

    Watch international artistes such as Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj compete for the top honors at this year’s American Music Awards. Hosted by Jennifer Lopez, it will see performances by One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Walk The Moon, and Meghan Trainor, to name a few.

    American Horror Story: Hotel,
    FX and FX HD, Saturday, 11 pm
    In the latest episode titled Flicker, tensions mount at Hotel Cortex. Dark secrets from the hotel owner, The Countess’ (played by Lady Gaga), past, are revealed—including the mysterious fate of her first love. The construction crew at the hotel also discovers a hidden hallway in the premises and are attacked by a crazy-looking man.
