Hilton introduces a mini buffet with your evening cuppa, available every day

Food shoot for Indulge at Hilton in Chennai Express / Ratheesh SundaramEvery English concept, with a very Chennai twist — that’s one way to describe Hilton’s latest offering. While places like The Leela Palace and Taj offer an English high tea, Est, the coffee shop at Hilton has tweaked the concept a bit, turning it into an evening tea buffet. This is their answer to both — the evening snacker who likes a quick bite with his chai and the hungry soul seeking a late lunch — we’re told by executive chef Yogender Pal.

Food shoot for Indulge at Hilton in Chennai Express / Ratheesh SundaramOn offer every day, between 3 pm and 6 pm, will be a crisp spread of something Indian (think onion bajjis, Mysore bondas Chettinad chicken puffs), something Continental (smoked ham/salmon sandwiches, chicken patties, cajun spiced chicken), with a few desserts thrown in, for a final touch. And what would high tea be without scones and cookies? Dusted with a fine layer of icing sugar and accompanied with cream and berry jams, they are the perfect accompaniment to my warm glass of flowery rosehip and hibiscus tea.

Speaking of tea, they offer the greens, whites and others in between (chamomile, earl grey, Darjeeling, silver needle, sencha and more), but if you would rather go for something more potent, feel free to ask for coffee. For your eating convenience, the food is offered in ‘mini’ versions, including the desserts that are tiny replicas of what’s on offer in their flying saucer-like display counter glowing with every imaginable colour within. And did we mention that the buffet (and choice of one tea) isn’t heavy on the pocket, costing just Rs.499 plus tax?
