So much for the dog days of summer; if this weekend was anything to go by, I’d say the city is managing to more than successfully distract itself from the heat. Starting off the weekend-long party was Karun Raman’s birthday bash, at the newly-renovated GRT Grand. The fashion industry ‘peeps’ from the designers to the model brigade, trooped in as the night wore on, proclaiming to the birthday boy that they wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Despite there being a microphone handy, speaking was replaced by loud music, dancing and lots of posing with brightly coloured cocktails.
The Mojitos and Bloody Marys weren’t limited to after dark this weekend, with much of the festivities taking place while the sun was very much up. Everyone got to flaunt their favourite sunglasses, first at Evoluzione this Friday at a sit-down masterclass with designer duo Shivan and Narresh. Aptly titled ‘Shaken not stirred’, the intimate session detailed the art of holiday dressing, decoding this season’s looks, complete with a live demo and sun-kissed model, making us want to rush off on our next beach ‘vacay’.
A similar vibe continued at Sidney Sladen’s Style Brunch Gala where easy-breezy looks and pops of colour ruled. Instead of a formal fashion show, the designer’s latest collection formed part of the décor, with mannequins lounging around, appearing almost to join in our conversations. Celebs sipped on bubbly, while taking turns to model their Sidney creations for the eager paparazzi, and each other’s Instagram accounts. It was also interesting to note that there were as many gentlemen in florals as there were ladies. An afternoon of bold choices indeed. The concept itself was by Record Productions, comprising a group of young gentlemen who insist that this is just the beginning. Post an elaborate sit down meal, which turned into a sundowner, people headed out to their next stops for the evening.
One set headed of to The Brew Room to watch Kavita Thomas perform live, bringing to a close their weekend-long second anniversary celebrations. It was a packed house throughout, with coffee and tea lovers filling up every last seat at the fun workshops on offer. The other set of partiers were in a slightly higher gear at Crowne Plaza at an evening hosted by Bellagio Colombo.
