A new pub offers an idyllic setting, with a menu spanning Indian, Chinese and European cuisine

After Dark in Kalyan Nagar has all the trappings of a friendly neighbourhood pub—great drinks, a friendly vibe, dark, grungy interiors and a line-up of quick bites that will keep you coming back for more. But what it also has is a beautiful open-air setting with light coming in from strikingly elaborate light fixtures — a rather incongruous picture, against the muted grey background. But it works, somehow.

Taking a table at a cosy corner of the terrace, we started with the Chilli garlic mushroom. Not for the faint hearted, this one is sure to set your tongue on fire. But paired with their classic Mojito (which was slightly on the stronger side), it was well received at the table. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can opt for something from their ‘Afterdark Special Cocktail’ section. Choices include Pan-Asia up (vanilla vodka with cranberry and pineapple juice), Jaws (coconut rum, melon, pineapple juice and cointreau), Mangopolitan (vodka, mango juice and cranberry juice), and more.

    Heating up

From the non-vegetarian appetiser section, we highly recommend the Chilli beef. You can ask for either the Chinese or South Indian version. We opted for the latter and were not disappointed. Ground coconut, curry leaves and aromatic spices come together in a dish that is definitely more-ish.

The chilly evening had us craving some comfort food, so we sampled their vegetarian pizza. Diners can  choose four toppings from a list of 14. We chose mushroom, arugula, sundried tomatoes and black olives. This one  failed to impress, but it is not the worst pizza we’ve eaten. For something more substantial, go with the Rosemary marinated chicken breast. The dish is served with mashed potatoes, stir-fried vegetables, garlic bread and a helping of pepper sauce. Having filled up on main course, we skipped dessert, but their selection of desserts, including Gulab Jamun, Gajar Ka Halwa and Tiramisu, does look promising.

Rs 1,250++ for two. At Kalyan Nagar. Details: 49652900
