Options for donut-lovers have multiplied in the last year, with international names like Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts setting up shop in the city. Building on the strength of five years in the Chennai market and more than 20 stores across South India, local brand Donut House last week launched its first city store.
With all of the donuts made without eggs, Donut House is an excellent option for vegetarians. “Unlike some other brands, we also have a large range of hot and cold beverages, sandwiches and burgers, although donuts make up 85 per cent of our sales,” says founder and managing director Bhuvanesh Subarayan. “Our bestseller is the Alien, which is a dark chocolate donut filled with milk chocolate flakes and a white chocolate web,” he elaborates. There are over 50 varieties to choose from totally,
but we’d also recommend the Colourful Chocolate Rush, which is topped with Gems and is popular with kids. Or the classic Ring Donut, which is simply dunked into sugar syrup.
Working on a franchise model, the brand hopes to open four more stores in the city by the end of the year. The first outlet in Jayanagar, with over 2000 square feet of space, will remain the flagship store. With an open kitchen where you can see the chefs at work adding embellishments to the sweet treats as well as freshly baking donuts, it’s worth a visit. The spacious and light upstairs mezzanine area can also be hired out for private functions.
Rs.300 for two approximately.
