Actor Gibran Osman says his latest project on the small screen is also an experiment in self-improvement
NATURAL with kids, Gibran Osman, actor and entrepreneur, is a perfect fit in the role of a pediatrician in the upcoming tele-serial, Uyirmei. Directed by V Priya and her husband Bhushan Kalyan, who has worked previously with famed director Mani Ratnam on movies like Iruvar, this medical drama for Z Tamil also has Amala Akkineni in the lead role. Talking about the show, the former VJ (SS Music) says, a�?It is a hospital drama that deals with medical aspects and personal situations that most can relate to.a�? In the serial, his character, Dr Karan Bhalla, is likeable and a hit with his patients.
Cut to cut
As for Kavitha, the role played by Akkineni, Osman says, a�?She is one of the senior doctors and has a vision for the hospital. She has her team of doctors and I am one among them.a�? Talking about the director, Priya, Osman finds her to be a firecrackera��a task master, who is meticulous with her scripts. a�?Priya made audio recordings of each charactera��s dialogues, three weeks in advance, so we could memorise them,a�? explains the Chennai-based theatre artiste. The 29-year-old also enthuses about the sets of the serial. a�?We are shooting in Ambattur where Thota Tharani has designed a sprawling hospital at a construction site,a�? he adds.
On his decision to get back to the small screen after five years, a�?I wanted to work with someone who knows what they are doing,a�? says the actor who is also the owner of Studio BAS, at Kader Nawaz Khan Road. In celluloid, Osman was last seen in this yeara��s Unnodu Oru Naal, a suspense thriller, and Bale Pandiya, four years ago. Up next is S J Suryaa��s Isai later this year.
According to Priya, Uyirmei will be different from other tele serials. a�?a�?It will not have the usual mega serial format. The episodes will focus on medical and emotional issues. There is something that one can take from each character and situation,a��a�� she says.
