THE star of Pyaar Ka Punchnama and the recent sequel Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Kartik Aaryan, till date, cracks up when he watches the hilarious scene with Paresh Rawal’s dialogue —“Teja main hoon” — and the camaraderie between Aamir Khan and Salman Khan in Andaaz Apna Apna (1994). Thrilled to see the pair at a promotional event, he was left speechless. “I was zapped,” says the 27-year-old, admitting that he ended up saying nothing to the duo.
His tryst with comedy goes way back to grade seven when he had participated in a fancy dress competition. “While dressing as The Mask, I painted my whole body green instead of just donning a green mask. Clearly, I took the green too far,” laughs the actor from Gwalior, who was mistaken as the Hulk at the event.
Little known Aaryan shot to fame with the six minute monologue he delivered for Pyaar Ka Punchnama, which went on to become a hit among youngsters.‘‘Even now I get phone calls, requesting me to narrate the monologue.’’ And he does so every time, often to a group of friends huddled around a phone on speaker.
When with parents, he loves watching movies from banners like Dharma and Yash Raj and with friends it’s classics like Meet The Parents and You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, says the Adam Sandler fan. The scene in Ace Ventura where Jim Carrey, with his mouthful of spinach, half of which is spilling out, asks, “Do I have something in my teeth?” is unforgettable, insists Aaryan. And another Hollywood favourite is Robert Downey Jr, for his sarcasm and dry wit in Due Date and the Iron Man series.
