Spidey’s girl missing
After Emma Stone as Mary Jane in the film The Amazing Spider Man , the director Marc Webb chose Shailene Woodley in the sequel. But this role has been through much controversy. Though the actress shot for only five scenes, Webb might do without them. During an interview Woodley said, ‘‘Looking back at it, MJ was in, I think, four scenes. I shot three days and they were good scenes, but they were also like 45-second long scenes, and to introduce such a vital character like that doesn’t make much sense in the end.’’
Caped crusader II
Fans have been furious since August about Ben Affleck joining Henry Cavill as Batman in Warner Bros’ Man of Steel sequel. It prompted a negative backlash, where more than 92,000 people signed to get him off the film — previous movies like Daredevil and Gigli didn’t help. Directed by Zack Snyder, it will see a more ‘‘weary and tired’’ Batman, according to Warner Bros CEO, Kevin Tsujihara. Strong supporter George Clooney had said, “Let’s just see what the movie is before everyone starts beating him up. He is a smart man, he knows what he is doing.”
Bane to Bond
How about a new James Bond? Actor Tom Hardy is reportedly being considered to play the secret agent in the next edition, once Daniel Craig finishes his contract with the franchise. According to the contract, Craig, who was last seen in Skyfall, is bound to star in two more James Bond films. However, the makers have already started their search for the next Bond. “Tom is right at the top of the wish list. He’s been approached to gauge his interest and he’s keen,” a source added. Whether he will match up to earlier Bonds like Sean Connery and Roger Moore remains to be seen.
Matters of the heart
Ian McKellen, at 74, will portray an older version of the legendary Sherlock Holmes in the film adaptation of Mitch Cullin’s novel, A Slight Trick of the Mind, which will be directed by Oscar winner, Bill Condon. It will see Holmes finally trying to crack the secret of the human heart. With his legendary power to solve cases and without his sidekick Watson, this will be the toughest case he has ever handled. The film marks McKellen’s reunion with his Gods And Monsters filmmaker Bill Condon. The film is expected to start shooting in the UK next April.
A younger K
Is it time to neuralyse Agent K? Will Smith has finally revealed that he will not be playing a role in the next Men in Black series. He says, “I think three is enough for me. Three of anything is enough for me. We’ll look at it and we’ll consider it, but it feels like it might be time to let someone else do that.” As for who could replace the role, director Barry Sonnenfield joked, ‘‘For Men in Black 4, Will is out and [his son] Jaden Smith is in.” During a recent interview Will said, ‘‘it is not something that I’m pushing for and I don’t even know if Jaden is interested, but we’re open.’’
