    When your bird is on a herbal diet to promote healthy eating

    WHILE Bengaluru has Lumiere (the website and restaurant) for many of its organic needs, including free range organic chicken, we find free range and regular broiler more commonly available in our city. That is, till a fortnight back, before Herboo Chicken opened shop at Mogappair. Offering chicken that has been fed on a special diet of neem juice, fenugreek, green gram and such, Herboo has been brought to the city by three brothers, A Arjunan, A Senthilkumar and A Boopathy from Erode.
    Senthilkumar, managing director (of Kongu Herbal Chicken that owns the brand Herboo) tells us that it all started in 2010 when they heard about the adverse effects of growth promoters and antibiotics among children consuming the meat. With 96 poultry farms, 24 retail outlets and 25 years of experience in the field, it took the trio five years to research the Herboo chicken and by 2015 convert their broiler farms of up to two lakh birds to be free of antibiotics and growth promoters. “The feed for our chicken is directly procured from the farmers. The diet was decided after much research to boost the immunity and health of the birds. Even the taste of the meat has improved! ” shares the 42-year-old, while refusing to disclose some of the key herbal ingredients.
