Organised by Comedy Wagon, the first ever Bengaluru Comedy Festival kicks off tomorrow. Set across three stages, the event will see over 50 artistes from across the country. With 18 shows being staged during the two-day event, it’s going to be a complete riot, and funnyman Danish Sait believes it will pave the way forward for budding comedians. “It’s a platform through which we can exchange ideas, collaborate and watch each other perform and hone our skills,” shares Sait, who is part of the opening act, The Improv.

Comedy to me is
Creating an environment with the
audience… generating laughter from unexpected and honest movements of truth mixed with the right amount
of exaggeration.

I’m inspired by
Every great artiste on stage, from
theater actors, poets, singers, magicians to of course, seasoned
stand-up comedians.

Who makes me laugh
My dad, my mom and my close
friends. Hence most of my stand up
material is inspired from them.

What’s in store?
You can expect me to give you a great show and make you leave in a better mood than when you stepped in.

Most memorable performance
Performing for my first 1,000
seater audience at the NCPA
in Mumbai.

Advice to budding artistes
Be honest to yourself , respect the art and do it for the audience.

Comedy to me is
Making people you’ve never met laugh… either live or online.

What to expect?
You will see me do stand-up comedy in the main style I enjoy. Nerdy and casual, talking about the silly parts of Bengaluru, and the whole culture of being an office hustler. And an NRI.

I’m inspired by
People who succeed in the harshest of obstacles.
Significance of the festival
It will go a long way
in putting the city on the map as a major comedy destination.

Most memorable  experience
Getting to tour the Russell Brand shows across India earlier this year.

Advice to newbies
There is nothing funny about funny business. It’s a lot of hard work and not all glamour.

Comedy to me is
A medium to give out all that extra energy and anxiety I carry around! Who doesn’t want to narrate a series of unfortunate events in the most enthusiastic manner and get away with it by calling it a joke!

I’m inspired by
Stupidity… the world’s and mine.

Who makes me laugh
My father, and anyone attempting
awkward comedy!

What can the audience expect?
Witness me pulling my hair, and screaming at the top of my voice because of all the excitement. Apart from that.. I promise a good chuckle.

Significance of the event
I think that this festival will open the mind of the audience and give us an opportunity to try different forms of comedy.

Words of wisdom
I am no legend, but from the little that I have done, until you are on stage, trying to make people laugh, you aren’t funny.

Daniel Fernandes
Comedy to me is
A way of life.

What’s in store at the festival?
Jokes, sarcasm, and selfies.

Significance of the event
It’s ground breaking on a grassroots level and also acts as an introduction to a lot of people who may not have watched live comedy before.

Advice to budding artistes
Write, perform, write.
