After bars and pubs, the city gets a new cafe in Adyar for enthusiasts of football, among other sports

We agree that thereas no better company on game night than a bottle of beer. But if you are a teetotaller, two-week-old Cafe Home Pitch in Adyar could soon become your new hangout. Located just above the new Tuscana Pizzeria by Viva, this 2,500 sq ft space has been seeing packed houses during its football screenings over the past two weeks. Besides sporting team jerseys and waving posters, Cafe Home Pitchas patrons have also started booking tables, lest they end up having to watch the game standing. Needless to say, owner Sangameshwaran P K (the franchisee owner of Tuscana downstairs) is thrilled and hopes the momentum will continue.1
Not too keen to watch Southampton FC battle Manchester United on a Sunday evening, we visit in the afternoon and land right in the middle of a 12-year-oldas birthday bash. Thankfully, the manager shows us upstairs where their pool tables overlook an al fresco area. Before we trade our menus for cues, we order their buffalo wings and nachos to munch on during our game. The wings are done to a crisp on the outside and seem to have been marinated in BBQ sauce for hours, while the nachos arrive topped with a chicken salsa and just the right amount of mayo. But what really does the trick for us (and hopefully for the football fans too) is the BBQ chicken and fried egg burger. In one word, meaty. Chunky chicken on a bed of onions, tomatoes, cheese and a fried egg a if only the buns were not toasted to the point of crackling on first bite, this would score full marks. Youall also find wraps, sandwiches and other starters like nuggets on the menu. And if youare thirsty, coolers, milk shakes and hot beverages await. For information on their next match screenings, follow them on Facebook.
