Why Gulshan Devaiah believes sex-comedy Hunterrr had a purpose

BENGALURU actor Gulshan Devaiah is the latest to be hooked on to Dubsmash, the German video app that lets you take a selfie video and mix it with any sound. He imitated a dialogue of Kareena Kapoor Khan from Jab We Met. The Hunterrr star, whose movie got attention for its adult content, has a lot more coming up later this year. Like a collaboration with Kalki Koechlin, whom he describes as a ‘dear friend’ of his Greek-born wife, TV actress Kallirroi Tzafetta. Devaiah’s next shoot will be for Pooja Bhatt’s Love Affair, in which he plays a naval officer, and Koechlin takes up the role of his English wife. With the action beginning in the 1950s, the costumes were a draw. “I love the naval uniform and Kalki has all the vintage dresses. She looks stunning—it’s almost like she’s made for that era,” he shares. Other projects include Cabaret, starring opposite Richa Chadda and Candyflip, an independent film about a shack owner in Goa. Devaiah has a few confessions to make. Like the last book he read, India after Gandhi. ‘‘It took me nearly two years. I don’t usually read books, but Ramachandra Guha is a very good writer.’’ Meanwhile, he hopes Hunterrr has encouraged many families to have frank conversations with each other. While the star’s own parents were very ‘open-minded’, even they struggled to talk to him about sexuality. “You have to guide young people to perceive sexuality in a healthy manner,” Devaiah signs off.
