Vir DAS wants to ensure we remember our history well—his reason for bringing his popular act, History of India VIRitten (by Ashvin Gidwani Produc-tions), to the city for the first time tomorrow, with an opening sequence by actor and comedian Kavi Shastri. “You can’t change history. So we have retained a major part of the (two-year-old) scrip. It’s an updated version. We’ll be talking about the upcoming elections, about Syria, Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi. We have made sure not to miss out on anything big in the week prior to the show,” offers Das, who mentions that the challenge was selecting the events to talk about. “The age group varies from 13 to 85. So you don’t know who is coming to see the show. We chose events based on popularity and what was funny,” shares Das.
Moving from the show, the comedian and actor gets talking about his favourite performers, “Bill Cosby has an observational style. George Carlin has an angry style which is high on energy and engages the audience. Johnny Lever has great crowd control. Louis CK is one of my favourite comedians. He is a younger version of Cosby. Anupam Kher has a great stage presence.” Das who is coming to the city for the third time, finds the crowd very “receptive and warm. The average intelligence level is very high. You don’t have to do a lot of explaining in cities like Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune,” he concludes.
