JUST as we were talking about how last week was (somewhat) relaxed, this week saw everyone multitasking like crazy to make sure we didn’t miss any of the weekend’s festivities. To start our weekend, on Friday we headed to Apparao Galleries where Renuka Vaidyanathan, owner of Bali-based BeingSattvaa, took us on a journey through the hand-woven textiles of Bali and explained to us their role in Balinese life and culture. Saturday saw us triple booked, starting off at Carat Lane for the launch of their Women Of Mettle programme. They announced ten women achievers from Chennai as their brand consuls, a list that included yours truly, along with squash champ Dipika Pallikal, Dr Priya Selvaraj and RJ Sanobar Sultana. We enjoyed an evening of girl bonding and lots of photo taking as we ‘oohed’ and ‘aahed’ over our favourite pieces of jewellery. Our next stop was at Hyatt Regency for Funky Fish’s latest pop up, ‘All walks beyond the catwalk’. It really was more than about just fashion, a ladies day out where we got to relax and catch up on what’s new. Adding to the feel was the beautifully done up venue, with the foliage motif extending from the invitation to the décor as well. Brand Bobo from Kolkota was definitely one of the big hits, as well as Outhouse, whose baubles it appeared, the girls could just not resist. The evening ended at the launch of Hamsa, a vegetarian fine dining restaurant that had a fashion-meets-food interactive showcase. And just as we thought we’ve seen everything, turns out we haven’t. Models walked the ramp holding signature dishes, ladies from the crowd were challenged to drinking games and at one point a solitary gentlemen found himself being called on to roll out rotis. Later in the week there was more bling courtesy FICCO FLO and Carat Lane again, with a fashion show featuring Farah Khan’s fine jewellery at ITC Grand Chola. Guests also enjoyed the interaction between Mithun Sacheti, CEO of Carat Lane and the Chennai-based designer herself. The conversation was a fun one covering everything from Farah’s journey in the business, to her hard-core fitness regime.
