Take a special 70s rock ‘n’ roll trip with Menon and his gang
Ananth Menon, avid guitarist and blues buff, (former member of Galeej Gurus) has teamed up with bassist Snehal Pinto and drummer Kishan Balaji to form the Ananth Menon Trio. We catch up with him ahead of their gig at bFlat tonight.
I knew that if I formed a group, I would play bluesy originals, and cover progressive bands like Porcupine Tree. Earlier this year at bFlat, we played a tribute to Cream. The audience loved it.
Since it’s a tribute to the 70s, we want to stick to classics like The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers Band, The Knack, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Steely Dan.
Life after Galeej Gurus
Galeej Gurus spoilt me! Our manager handled everything, all we had to do was show up and play. Now, I can’t afford a manager, so I do things on my own. But everything else is great, I have played with bands like By2Blues and The Chronic Blues Circus. My musical processes have changed to a great extent.
I would love to have a guitar duel or an acoustic set with Rudy Wallang of Soulmate, Hindustani vocalist Vedant Bharadwaj and singer Jayashree Singh of Skinny Alley. I’m also a big fan of guitarist Tony Das of Bhoomi and Amyt Datta of Skinny Alley.
