Reinterpreting Indian crafts
Bringing together 23 top notch contemporary designers from across the country, global philanthropic foundation Be Open’s Made In… India: Samskara is an initiative that explores Indian crafts and works towards sustaining them. Curated by Sunil Sethi, president of India’s Fashion Design Council, the works showcased will range from furniture and tableware to textiles, garments and jewellery.
It is a creative retelling of traditional Indian handicrafts with an aim to lend them a global appeal. The products will be on display at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi. The new generation of designers whose works will be showcased will include familiar names like Abraham and Thakore, Ashish Soni, Gaurav Gupta, Pankaj & Nidhi, Ayush Kasliwal, Bombay Atelier, Episode and Klove. A special bespoke space has been created by architect Anupama Kundoo. The pieces are not for sale but will be auctioned at Milan World Expo 2015.
