Gear up for the fifth edition of  Art Bengaluru

Sublime Galleria presents Art Bengaluru, beginning Thursday. The 10-day affair brings together some of the country’s most recognised names, including Art Salon, Nature Morte, and Latitude 28 from Delhi, Art Houz, Chennai and iSpace Art Gallery, Bangalore.

Going global
Adding an international flavour is New York-based Klien Sun Gallery, specialising in Chinese art and Vietnamese Art from Vietnam. A highlight is well-known Chinese artist, Liu Bolin who will be showcasing his renowned series titled, ‘Hiding in the City’ and will unveil a creation he is working on exclusively for Art Bengaluru 2014.
Called the ‘Invisible Man’, Biolin has participated in exhibitions all over the world, painting himself to blend in with any background. Other artists participating include C Douglas, SG Vasudev, Pradeep Putthoor, Martand Khosla, Jaykumar G, AV Illango, Alphonso Arul Doss, and Athiveera Pandian.

Thematic approach
With ‘Renaissance’ as the theme, the opening event will see the unveiling of an installation by celebrated Mumbai-based artist Krishnamachari Bose titled ‘No-thing’. “The theme is about European art history, and one of the richest eras for art, invention, culture and science. It marks the beginning of new thinking, patronage and most importantly, frivolous art. Art Bengaluru, over the past four years, has attempted to increase art appreciation and encourage fresh thinking, new ideologies, art and mediums,” says founder Sublime Galleria, Uzma Irfan.
Apart from the unveiling of the installation, a dance performance marks the inauguration while a performance by the students of Berserk 2014 will mark the finale on August 27 at the amphitheatre in UB City.
Entry free. At UB City, Vittal Mallya Road.  Details: artbengaluru.in
