The peppy Anupamaa Dayal, known for her contemporary interpretation of traditional Indian garments and easy, free-flowing silhouettes brings a carefully curated collection to the Bombay Attic next week. Perfect to keep those mid-week blues at bay, the trunk show is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. Having dressed the likes of supermodel Gisele Bundchen, and Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor-Khan, her label Anupamaa has also been recognised by Elle US and Vogue UK, apart from being part of the Paris Pret-a-Porter – an international fashion trade show, for the last four years.
“I have lived in Bengaluru, so I know the city’s vibes. Keeping that in mind, we have curated a selection of garments from various collections, that suit Bangalorean fashionistas. Expect easy, comfortable pieces, which is anyway our signature style,” shares Dayal. “They’re all pieces that can easily be transformed from day to night with the right accessories,” adds the designer, whose label aims to revive the ancient crafts of hand block printing and needle craft. The palette is a mix of vibrant shades with a celebratory vibe, with silhouettes that include long, flowy dresses, loose fitting and flirty tunics, and a wide range of Bohemian bottoms from dhoti pants to culottes and palazzos, all with interesting prints. Fabrics used are a blend of chiffons, light silks and dainty cotton brocades.
Dayal is currently working on her line, Manjula, to be showcased in Paris in early September. “It’s a line that’s a perfect example of ‘more is more’,” she tells us. Think, prints on prints and pattern on pattern in eye catching shades.
