The new boutique salon offers celebrity stylists, express makeovers and even a rooftop café.
A quick dash in for a manicure is not what the newest salon in town would encourage you to do. The people at Wink, housed in a spacious house in Alwarpet, would rather you spend some time there, relaxing in deep leather chairs for an indulgent pedicure, chatting with celebrity stylist and salon manager Jammy Fernando (who works with actors like Karthi) about your hair makeover, or tucking into healthy snacks at their rooftop cafe before heading in for a facial.
Dropping by for a relaxing few hours, I get a quick tour of the space, which is accented by royal colours of purple and gold, but with touches of quirk, like the catchy one-lines on the walls and interesting light fixtures (think nude bulb hanging from thick ropes). The Zone Room on the terrace is an interesting idea—a space for makeup workshops, professional portfolio shoots and even a musical evening or two. There is also a meditation room, where owner Samantha Jagan’s mother, an alternative therapist, will conduct reiki sessions and the like.
“I’ve designed the space as a one-stop boutique makeover studio. Unlike a regular beauty salon, you can lounge around—the staff will treat you like royalty, I assure you—and get everything done under one roof,” explains Jagan, a celerity stylist herself, whose clients include actresses Andrea Jeremiah and Amala Paul. “Later, I want to add an in-house designer (for bridal outfits) and a cosmetologist, too,” adds the 30-something, who is inspired by Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s TV show, Band Baajaa Bride.
I settle down for a pedicure that is luxurious, with US-based Cuccio products leaving my feet soft and moisturised. The staff are in no hurry to wrap up the service, paying special attention to areas that need some extra pampering (like my heels), which is a plus in my book. While I skip the Kerastase hair lounge (worth another visit), the one-hour facial, with Spanish brand Skeyndor, makes sure I leave the salon, after a quick click at their selfie zone, with a smile.
Manicures from Rs 800 onwards and makeovers (women) from Rs 5,460. Details: 42148555
