When you have contests on radio, it somehow drives even the laziest person on the planet to make a call. While most callers take part for the fun of it, and not necessarily for the gratifications, whenever there is a big ticket to be won the phone lines will get jammed.
Most listeners prefer not to have hardcore current affairs thrown at them because most of them are already aware of the catastrophes, corruption and comedy that find its way into the news. When there is something light and easy on air, it automatically makes the listener feel the same way. If you couple this experience with a contest and give-away that none can resist, then you have a winning product right there.

Big FM, Chennai, has done exactly that with the support of an airline. The station is all set to give a unique opportunity to the city’s listeners on Take it Easy with RJ Balaji, from 5 pm to 9 pm every Monday to Saturday. The task is pretty simple: tune into the ‘Mandaveli to Macau’ segment, answer a few  questions and win a four-day holiday to Macau—from April 10 to 13—with the RJ for company.

During the last holiday season, the station had sent listeners on a holiday to Bangkok with a campaign called ‘Bangkok with Balaji’. Encouraged by the overwhelming response, it decided to run a contest this year, too. Once Big FM shortlists the winners, they can go on the four-day-three-night all-expense paid trip to one of South East Asia’s most exotic locales, Macau.

This summer, there’s no better way to party and relax than by tuning into RJ Balaji’s show on Big FM and going on a free holiday. Make sure you keep your fingers crossed! I’ll catch you next Friday with more radio talk.
