THIS weekend, Collage caters to both the flamboyant and the understated, with collections by two designers – Manish Gupta and Nupur Kanoi. While Gupta’s collection sees festive colours, Kanoi’s is an ode to the vixens in Bollywood. So expect a mix of dressy ensembles with florals, and sober lines with subtle shimmer.
Gupta is showcasing his Autumn/Winter and Festive collections, with dresses, tunics and gowns in fuchsia, green, olive and grey. “There will also be jackets and trousers; lot of baroque work, floral patterns and metal bead work,” the Delhi-based designer promises. He has used velvet yarn for the collection, and fabrics like chiffon, net, tulle, chanderi and organza. “The Festive collection has embroidery, but isn’t over the top,” he adds. Look forward to anarkalis and kurtas in bright colours like lime yellow, orange, gold, mustard and pink. Gupta has used net applique and silk thread on the garments.
The Festive collection is priced between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 40,000 whereas the Autumn/winter collection is priced between `25,000 and Rs. 80,000.
Along came black
Kolkata-based Nupur Kanoi has called her line Noir Jahaan.“The seductress or the vamp in Bollywood was confident of her looks with sexy outfits, red lipstick and often seemed more glamorous than the heroine of the film,” Kanoi says. Look out for details like bra adjusters, crisscrossed ribbons and lace in outfits like sheer kurtas and kalidaars. “There is use of fishnet print, and embroidery inspired by lace patterns on silks and crepes,” Kanoi adds. The designer has also used thread work and sequins. The collection has subtle colours like taupe, black and grey. Expect kalidaar kurtas with shoulder pads, sari skirts with jackets and satin lingerie slips under sheer kurtas. Rs. 15,000-Rs. 25,000
