A series on love and life in the single lane

Targetting the younger generation, Shree Karthick and friend Swaminath of Madboys Entertainment have launched a web series to be aired every Friday. Titled Happy To Be Single, the 10 to 12-minute episodes follow the lives of bestfriends Vinay, Uday and Tanya as they fall in and out of love with each other à la Friends and How I Met Your Mother.

    Young cast
“We wanted something that youth can relate. All that is available to them is family dramas that drag on for years,” says Chennai-based Karthick who has directed the five-episode series and plays the part of Vinay. Uday is played by Swaminath, an acclaimed theatre artiste in Chennai, and Tanya by Deekshita, fourth runner-up of the recently-concluded Miss South India 2013. Employing comedy-based dialogues, a different theme each week, engaging episodes, in-video graphics and frequent references to social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp, 25-year old Karthick aims to make the online show something the youth can easily relate to.

    Fresh talent
“We have shot the episodes like a film, which means that we have used high-end cameras, state-of-the-art equipment and we have spent a lot of money. And that’s why we’ve restricted ourselves to five episodes. If we find a sponsor we will think of extending it to 15 episodes per season,” Karthick says of the English-cum-Tamil series. With a talented crew of music director Radhan, editor Jomin Mathew, Sync Cinema (sound effects), VFX artist Sankara, graphic designer Chella and cinematographer Stanly John in the mix, the show seems promising but only time will tell how it will be received.
