    With proceeds from most events going to charity, the city is truly celebrating the season of giving this year. You can dress up Christmas trees, participate in a crazy hat competition, sample homemade goodies, meet Santa and brush up on your Shakespeare too.     Bamboola Winter Fair, December 21, RA Puram
    The fifth edition of this popular fair will have around 35 women entrepreneurs across the city showcasing handmade products like terracotta and clay jewellery and kidswear. Children are guaranteed to have fun with 18 game stalls featuring puzzles, building blocks and car racing, organised by Butterfly Birthday Blast. Expect a photo booth, tattoo stall, face painting, pony ride and jumping castle too. “We will be giving out gift vouchers worth `100 and `500 every 15 minutes for the walk-ins,” says Sujatha Vijay, the director of Bamboola. For food, Vijay has Priya’s cupcakes, homemade chocolates by Jaya Priya, and cookies. From 3 pm to 7 pm. Tickets for kids are priced at Rs 50 and adults Rs 20. On December 21.     The Christmas Fair, December 7, Chetpet
    This fair has it all – great food, shopping and more. Expect stalls with accessories and clothes, most of which will be set up by NGOs. We hear that all eyes will be on the crazy hat competition (decorate your hat as you fancy). The Christmas Fair Association, who are the organisers, promise us great food from places like Savera and Benjarong. All proceeds from the event will go to beneficiaries like Mercy Home in Kilpauk and Little Sisters of the Poor on Harrington Road. Entry at Rs 5 per head. From 10 am to 2 pm at the Madras Seva Sadan.     Grand Bazaar, Vanilla Children Place, December 14, RA Puram
    The fair by Vanilla Children Place has a host of activities lined up. For starters, there is storytelling for kids between four and six, a play area (at Rs 200), and a section for blocks called Let’s Build a City with Citiblocs. Also showcased, furniture, home décor like ceramic paintings, jewellery, accessories, hand made bags and play dolls by Shilpa Mitha. Don’t miss customised clay figurines and miniatures by Sueño Souvenir whose every product is hand sculpted without the use of moulds.     The street food restaurant on TTK Road is working on an evening of activities including cookie and tree decoration, a visit from Santa Claus and an elaborate continental dinner with loads of Christmas snacking.     Christmas Show, A to Zee Creativity, December 13, RA Puram
    Friday the 13th will not be so glum, thanks to the Christmas Show being staged by the kids at A to Zee Creativity. Expect an evening of talent starting with the kids under eight who will be enacting Noddy (5.30 pm to 6.15 pm). The second will be Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban (6.30 pm to 7.30 pm) by the eight to 12-year-olds and finally Shakespeare’s As You Like It by the teenagers. Directed by Shaan Libby, the show will take place at TN Rajarathinam Auditorium. Don’t miss the carols at the end (we hear they will be performing numbers from Simon & Garfunkel).     Sing The Season, December 8, Triplicane
    Don’t miss the grand finale of the Christmas Carol Competition by Aachi. Choirs of educational institutions, church-es and private choirs will be competing for the rolling trophy. Winners get Rs 50,000 and two runners up get Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. Music director Harris Jayaraj will be one of the guests. This Sunday, from 2 pm to 6 pm, at Madras University.
