I can’t believe we’re already a month into the year and as January gives way to February, the city shows no signs of slowing down. This week again presented multiple launches, red carpet soirees and sporting events. Award season is here in all its glory, and while it’s hard to keep track of the various categories and nominations, in the lead up to the big ‘O’, the red carpet does make for good entertainment. The Filmfare awards got their usual share of attention, as we all picked out our best dressed favourites (in secret or otherwise) and argued about ‘who wore it best’. Meanwhile in Chennai, the Ritz Style awards saw celebrities across various spheres strutting their stuff, amidst much fanfare and excitement. Actors Vikram, Samantha and Shriya Reddy, music director Harris Jayaraj and businessman Arun Vasu received awards, while the new CLA from Mercedes Benz was unveiled.
The buzz continued through the weekend with the Leather Fashion show 2015 at Taj Coromandel previewing the Spring-Summer 2016 collection. Language shoes kick started the show with a special kids sequence, which got everyone smiling despite the ultra serious ‘we-mean-business’ vibe. Unipel, in association with Chaitanya Rao, saw a lot of textured leathers with intricate detailing, while Tata international used nature as its inspiration, and boldly forayed into bridal wear. We also saw a serious throw back to the 50s with poodle skirts, mid-calf lengths and lots of volume.
Another stop this weekend was Mehta Jewellers as they unveiled their 2015 calendar at their store on Khadar Nawaz Khan road. The event was to celebrate and pamper a few of their special and accomplished customers, who were incidentally chosen to be the models for their calendar. Vidya Singh took on the role of introducing the chosen patrons, and making a special appearance was 92-year-old Surendra Mehta, founder of Mehta Jewellers, who we learnt has been working with diamonds since the age of 14.
Elsewhere, the Madras Metro Round Table 95 Top Gun Classic 2015 golf challenge was graced by actor Arun Vijaykumar and director KS Ravikumar. With Nikhil Cherian winning the Gold Division, the event saw attendance from enthusiasts and industrialists alike.
Later on, at a mid-week party at Hyatt Regency, featuring plenty of finger food from their signature restaurants, Sunjae Sharma passed the baton on to the new GM, Madhav Sehgal. We’ll catch you next week with more action from around the city.
